Praying for Poop

First and foremost, I have to thank all of you for your powerful love, prayers and support.

The surgery went PERFECTLY this morning! They were able to close him with the best option possible and pull together all of his own fascia and skin. They had to make a fairly large incision over his abdomen to get everything inside, but they made him a beautiful belly button and chicks dig scars. :-p

He is still recovering from surgery, so he is completely sedated, still, and intubated (on a breathing machine) and probably will be for about a day or so, but we want to keep him as comfortable as possible for now so he isn't in too much pain when he wakes up. Once he wakes up and is extubated (taken off the breathing machine), we'll get to hold him for the first time, so we are patiently waiting for that moment to come. For now we are thankful that everything went so well.

From here out we have to wait and see what his body is going to do with his "chitlens" (as the surgery staff like to refer to them) inside. There is still some swelling so it will take time for everything to calm down and for things to start moving. They will continue to feed him TPN and lipids through his IV until either 1) he poops, 2) the bile they are draining from his stomach decreases in amount or turns to clear, or 3) 6 weeks. If he poops, that obviously means everything is continuous and functional so they will start feeds by mouth as soon as that happens. Otherwise, we have to see what the bile in his stomach is doing or give him 6 weeks to rest before they'll run any tests on the gut.

Since we know your support and prayers have worked SOOO well, we're asking for "prayers for poop," because the sooner that happens, the sooner we can start feeds and the sooner we can start the journey towards getting home (and of course we can start using all of this milk I've been working so hard to make!).
