Lessons Learned

Philip is now overcoming his second cold. As sad as it was to see him cry silently when he lost his voice, and as difficult as it was to not sleep for two days, we did learn a few great tricks for soothing a seemingly inconsolable baby.

  1. Vacuuming. Just strap him in the moby wrap (the moby in itself is a Godsend, my friends) and start cleaning. The sound of the vacuum and the rocking motion that goes along with using it knocks him right out.
  2. Driving. Normally he hates the car seat, but 10 minutes on the freeway during a sunny day is the recipe for a sleeping Philip.
  3. Mylicon. A full day of fussing and crying can lead to some serious gas buildup. Gas relief medication is about the only way to ensure that the sleeping Philip remains asleep for longer than an hour.
  4. Wine. Alright, well this did surprisingly little for him (I thought a little alcohol in the breast milk might help him sleep - no dice), but it did help me stay calm when dealing with all the fussing.
So these are some of the tricks I discovered during the our second cold round. I welcome new advice & suggestions!! :)
